Dave McQue?

Postby G0TWN on Sun Dec 07, 2008 11:31 am

I noticed on Friday, an obituary entry for a Dave McQue, Bletchley in the local newspaper. My mind lapses to his callsign. G4? Can someone confirm if it is indeed the club's Dave McQue please?

Yes sadly it is G4NJU, the clubs former Chairman. His funeral is tomorrow.

Thank you for confirming it.

Dave G3ZPA got me interested in Amateur Radio when I was about 14 years old. He would come round to my cul-de-sac in his old Commer (sp?) van, with his Pye Westminster base station upon the pasenger seat. Into CB in those days, I then ventured into short wave listening. My father took me to the MKARS meets at Newport Pagnell. I recall how friendly Dave G4NJU was. Prior to sitting the RAE in London (C&G), I visited the clubs Wolverton venue a few times.

Having passed my RAE, I became a 'regular' member of the club when it moved to Faulkner House, Bletchley Park. Easier for me to cycle to! I'm 41 years old now and don't cycle too much!

I'll miss Dave (G4NJU), a gentleman and always willing to help newcomers. If I recall correctly, he ran the RAE courses before Verdun. I think my brother Tom went to those. Dave imparted a lot of help with EMC enquiries. I think he was on the RSGB EMC Committee then. He helped me with a lot of circuits from his head whenever I asked about interfacing this or that to my radios.

You know, I'm not the best person to commemorate all of Dave's dedication to the local radio community so I'll ask for others to make their comments here please. I'll raise a glass in memory of Dave. I thank him for all his help and for the great car he sold me! Cheers Dave.

RIP

I never met Dave myself, but I have featured him in next months club newsletter "The Electron".

Dave was a true gentleman and a great radio ham / mentor.

During the 80's and early 90's, before I moved to the US, myself along with many others from that era knew him well and spent much time discussing technical issues.

RIP Dave

And best regards to all who remember me either as G8GIW or G4WIM

:right: I came across this forum listing about Dave McQue G4NJU S.K. by chance!

I would just like to say that the Amateur Radio world has lost a great man.

He gave me one to one tuition (I have profound deafness) for most in 2005/2006 for the Advanced exam which I took and passed in May 2006 - I am M0XJP.

He was a very clever man... and I owe him a debt of thanks.

In case you are wondering how I operate with deafness, I use the MFJ speech intelligability enhancer and Heil Proset Plus haedset and can hold my own in contests! I also operate using datamodes.
